Alternative & Post-Purchase Evaluation

In my interview with Carly, she starts off by seeing how much the app is. Since a lot of apps are free, she takes special interest in the apps that she is paying for. If she was going to pay for an app the price range would have to be from .99 cents to 1.99 anything above that would not be worth it. She also talks about how she likes when specific apps offer free versions and then premium versions. On the free version you get to try the app out and see if you like it enough to get the premium app. After hearing Carly’s insight, I will definitely look into having a free app and then a premium app that has more features.

In my interview with Debbie, I found out that she starts by looking at the quality of the app. To do this, she looks at the reviews/comments on the app. After learning about the app the price point does not matter, if it is a quality product. She is an avid online shopper and likes the convenience of buying products from her bed.

In my interview with Beau, I learned that he would not pay for an app. After the price point, he looks at the quality of the product. In order for him to know he made a good purchase he needs to use the app a lot.

After these interviews, I found a lot out about my product. My app is designed to make every store such as local boutiques and big box stores available to be able to sell their products either online or for easy pickup. My app definitely appeals to people who enjoy the convince of online shopping rather than physically going into the store. I think quality mattered to my customers the most and then after that it was for sure price. My interview with Carly, gave me a good idea to have a free version and a premium version for my app. All of my interviewees had the same response to my post-purchase evaluation. All of them would consider it a good purchase if they find themselves using the app frequently.

  1. Price is definitely an important aspect to consider when downloading and purchasing an application. A lot of the time making an application more than free makes a lot of people feel that they do not need to buy it. It is interesting that your friend Carly would not buy anything more than $1.99. Maybe if she likes the free application enough, she will move to the premium one.

  2. Some very interesting information you got from your customers. From my experience, I have never bought an app that costed more than $2 dollars and definitely would prefer a free version over a full version if I get most of the features without having to pay. If the app is a "must have" then people will definitely buy the full version if you leave out a lot of the features in the free version of an app.

  3. Having a premium app and a free app may cost more money but from a customers point of view it is a good thing. I agree with most of the people you interviewed because I would not pay more than $2 for an app. I tend to look for a free version first because I am a broke college student but if I really need the app I hope to not spend a fortune. Good research on your interviews and summaries!

  4. I find myself doing the same things the first two people you interviewed nearly every time I think of downloading a new app or am going to get a new app. I always look at reviews and take the price into consideration, as they are very important factors in an app's value, especially to me. The only real exception to these general rules is when I have heard about an app via word-of-mouth, in which case I usually download the app without hesitation (especially when good things are being said about the app in question).

  5. Hello Haley,

From your interviewees I have found myself being able to relate to all three of them. When it comes to apps as you see you come across many different ideas and perspectives people take when getting them. Because of that you need to consider which individuals you want to attract, whether it be it some or all of them. Some people look into having the best so quality is important, some people want more than everyone else so price is important, then some people just want free stuff and that is expected. So taking all those into account will help with figuring out how you should handle your app.
